2013 Kilkenny Time Trial League

Marble City Cyclers are delighted to jointly host this year’s Time Trial league with our friends in Kilkenny Triathlon Club and Deenside Wheelers.

The format of the Kilkenny Time-Trial league has been agreed as follows:

GENERAL RULES

1. Entry is only open to current members of Kilkenny Triathlon Club, Marble City Cyclers and Deenside Wheelers

2. The first TT is on Thursday, 2nd May 2013. It will continue every Thursday for another 5 weeks. The last TT will be on 6th June 2013

3. There are three routes for the TT League and each route will be used twice and run in the following order:

2nd May Kilmanagh TT - 14.5km. This starts at the Kilmanagh Creamery

9th May Cilin Hill TT - 13.5km. This starts beside the entrance to Cillin Hill

16th May Castlecomer TT - 16km. This will start in Castlecomer

23rd May Kilmanagh TT

30th May Cilin Hill TT

6th June Castlecomer TT

13th June - Team Time Trial - Route TBC

4. Following the 6 weeks of the TT Series, there will be a one-off Team Time Trial on Thursday 13th June. Each club will make up one 5-person team. Each Team must have one female member. Each club's team will be made up of the fastest 4 men and the fastest woman from their club, from the TT series. If some of these people don't want to do the team time trial, then that place will be offered to the next fastest club member etc. The winning time will be based on the time the 4th member of the team crosses the finishing line (so one member may get dropped without penalty, although 5 members MUST start). Route to be confirmed.

5. Entry fee will be €10 (regardless of how many of the TT’s a participant participates in)

6. Time trials will start at 7pm, so sign-on on the night closes at 6.55pm. We ask participants to be there by 6.15pm on the first night for league registration and 6.45pm all other nights

7. Each participant will be required to sign the sign-on sheet each night

8. The number given to the participant on the first night will remain their number for the remainder of the league. Please make a note of it and keep it for the duration of the league

9. The league will adopt Triathlon Ireland’s rules in relation to drafting. This is as follows:

  • Bicycle draft zone: the draft zone will be a rectangle. The width will always be 3 metres wide by 10 metres length
  • An athlete may enter the draft zone of another athlete, but must be seen to be progressing through that zone. A maximum time will be allowed to pass through the zone of another athlete of 15 seconds
  • An athlete is passed when another athlete's front wheel is ahead of theirs. Once overtaken, an athlete must move out of the draft zone of the leading athlete within 5 seconds
  • 1 minute penalty for drafting

10. Participants are also required to enter the league in the spirit of the competition

11. The awards night will be social night held on Friday, 14th June (Location to be confirmed)

FORMAT OF TT

1. Each participant starts individually at intervals. The intervals are normally 30secs but this may change, depending on the number of participants on the night

2. The time recorded and stated by the marshals is final

3. The fastest time for each of the three TT routes is taken for each participant. This will allow a participant two ‘goes’ at each TT route (or afford them to miss one night on each route)

4. Should a participant miss a route twice, they will be awarded the slowest time for that route plus 1 second. This should discourage you to miss a route twice

5. The main award/prize will be the Team Award and the follow applies:

  • Each team will have 4 participants of various abilities
  • This means that all teams should be of similar abilities
  • The team with the fastest (lowest) accumulated time will be declared the winning team
  • This will ensure that each participant, regardless of ability, will contribute to their team and are in contention for a prize
  • Although still to be confirmed, it’s likely that there will be 4 participants on each team

6. The following individual awards will also be giving to the participant. This will be based on the fastest accumulated time for each participant on the three TT routes:

  • Fastest Male & Female overall
  • Fastest member from each of the 3 clubs (not otherwise in the prizes)
