Last weekend saw another strong turnout for the Marble City Cyclers club spin. On Sunday we had a large group that headed down the Waterford Road to Knocktopher, across to Kilmoganny and WIndgap and back to Kilkenny via Callan. This route totalled 77kms and took the group 3 hours at an average of 26.3km/h. The group was made up of, Pat Tobin, John Corcoran, Mick Burke, Pat Fitzgerald, Eoin Hogan, Joe Ryan, Ronan Meaney, Clive Dunne, Dave Ellis, Joe Griffin, Ger McDonald, Brendan McCarthy, Tom Talbot, James O'Leary, Gerry McGovern, Ger Kennedy and Frank Dwyer.
On Saturday a smaller group made up of Mick Barron, John Corcoran, Denis Kehoe, Pat Fitzgerald, Charlie Parson and Joe Ryan did the same route as Sunday but in reverse and went around in 2 hr 55 min giving them a slightly quicker speed of 26.5km/h.
Next weekend there is no club run as the Festive Fifty will be taking place on Sunday and we also have a group heading to Ballyhoura in Limerick on Saturday for a mountain biking trip. The Festive Fifty is a charity cycle in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association and is taking place this coming Sunday 4th December. Non members of the club are more than welcome to participate. The route will take riders from Kilkenny to Paulstown, then on to Gowran, stopping in Thomastown for refreshments, then returning through Bennetsbridge and we will finish at the IWA buildings in Kilkenny where there will be further refreshments. Participants are encouraged to dress festively as they will be spot prizes for the best efforts.
Club members are reminded that the deadline for ordering new club gear is this Friday 2nd.
Further information on all of the above is available on the club website.
Tip of the Week: As the Scouts say, “Be prepared”. Carry a multi-tool, tyre levers and a couple of spare tubes in a small bag under your saddle so they’re always there when you need them, and fit a pump to your bike. Practice changing a tube at home so that when the inevitable does happen you know what you’re doing.
