Club News Week Ending 16/10/11
Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 8:57AM
This weekend saw a huge turnout of club members at the very well organised Castlecomer Challenge. Deenside Wheelers put on a fantastic event in ideal autumnal conditions and with the added attraction of a chance to cycle with the legendary Sean Kelly this was for many cyclists an opportunity not to be missed and the highlight of 2011. For most cyclists this would have been the final event of the season and its now time to wind down and just get some steady miles in on your club run.
To allow for the cold dark mornings the official weekend club run for the winter has now moved from 9am to 10am meeting at the Castle Gates as usual. The main club spin is on a Sunday although there will remain a small band continuing to go on a Saturday too. Non Members are welcome to come and join us on club spins and find out more about the club. At this time of year we’ll be doing between 50 – 70km’s at a fairly steady pace, we try and ride to the speed of the slowest rider and keep together as a group although a certain base level of fitness is expected.
The club is organising 2 x 10 week sessions of Spinning and Core Strength Training which all starts this week.
On the 5th November there is a club trip down to Ballyhoura to try out some mountain biking (bike hire available), full details on the club website. We have 8 cyclists already confirmed and have a local guide for the day organised. This should be a fun day out and a great opportunity to try out mountain biking at this world class mountain bike trail.
