€60K for Barretstown

The clubs main sponsor Glanbia/Avonmore recently handed over a cheque for €60,000 to Barretstown which was the total amount raised through a number of fundraising initiatives in 2010. Amongst those initiatives was the Tour de Kilkenny, organised by Marble City Cyclers. which raised €7,188 and by doing so contributed generously to the grand total of €60,000 which was donated to the Barretstown charity.

The club would like to thank all those who participated in last years event and are really proud of the amount of money that was raised. The club will once again be running its 3rd Tour de Kilkenny on the August Bank Holiday weekend and have already started planning for what we hope will be an even bigger turnout than the 470 participants we had in 2010.

Pat Murray is seen (pic below) representing Marble City Cyclers at Barretstown. Pat was given a tour of the facilities at Barretstown and also met one of the families who's children have attended camps there. The work that is being done at Barretstown is outstanding and goes a long way in helping families who have children with serious illnesses. The club and all those people who participated in the Tour de Kilkenny should be rightly proud of your efforts and know that those efforts are going to a very very worthy cause.
