Autumn Cycles
Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 8:16PM
The days are getting shorter, the evening cycles are becoming abnormal rather than normal and it can only mean one thing: Autumn!! The cycling season is coming to an end, no doubt, but it's important that we don't lose any of that cycling fitness that we have gained over the summer. We're putting together a programme or probably better a set of conditions to our weekend spins that will suit those who have been regularly attending the Monday evening spins. This will ensure that those who have been participating in the Monday evening spins will be on their cycling fitness, while the more established members will be holding on to the fitness they've gain, as well as laying the foundation for next season.
1. Cycles will be no longer than 2 hours and hopefully less.
2. Distances will be approx 50km and definitely no longer than 60km.
3. We have four pre-defined routes that we will be taking, depending on the wind of the day. This way, participants will know the route that is being done.
4. The days are getting colder so there will be no hanging around. We will leave at 9am sharp – and we mean it this time!!
5. Cycles will be at a steady pace, similar to the Monday night spins.
6. Routes will be chosen from one of the four routes below, depending on which direction the wind is blowing, as a rule we would always try and cycle out into a headwind and return home with a tailwind,

When the wind is blowing from the North:
Kilkenny - Freshford - Ballyragget - Castlecomer - Kilkenny
When the wind is blowing from East:
Kilkenny - Bennettsbridge - Thomastown - Dungarvan - Gowran - Paulstown - Kilkenny
When the wind is blowing from South:
Kilkenny - Stoneyford - Knoctopher - Dunamaggin - Kells - Kilkenny
When the wind is blowing from West:
Kilkenny - Kells - Callan - Kilmanagh - Kilkenny
